The Torres family has purchased properties in three very respected wine regions: Ribera del Duero, Toro and Jumilla. The majority of the land on the properties that have been purchased do not yet have vines planted on them. Look for new and exciting wines to come from Torres in the years ahead!

Wine Recommendation: 2000 Capcanes Cabrida

Over the weekend, I finally opened up a great bottle that I'd been saving for a couple of years. It was the 2000 Cabrida from Capcanes, an excellent full-bodied wine that is 100% old vines Garnacha (Grenache).

Capcanes is an interesting winery, which was once a local cooperative where local growers would bring their harvests for crush and fermentation of their wines. Cooperatives have a long history throughout Spain. Some like Capcanes, have transformed themselves into single wineries, while others have closed down due to the wine revolution going on in Spain. Capcanes is located in the region of Montsant, southwest of Barcelona adjacent to the exciting Priorat region.

The 2000 Cabrida is truly an excellent wine with great body and balance, and packed with wonderful fruit and concentration. After drinking it, I could see this wine aging for another 3-5 years easily. But why wait?! This is a great wine! If anyone has tried other vintages, please speak up!

I also recommend the Costers del Gravet from Capcanes, which can be found in the U.S. for about $16. Cheers.

Welcome to the Spanish Wine Club blog!

Hello to everyone out there interested in the world of Spanish Wine!
